A Good Deed Smile

Today I did a good deed (I'm really not patting myself on my back). It cost me nothing. Ok, I got cold wet hands but they warmed up quickly. The good deed was for an older gentleman with a walker and his wife who said "it's hard to see in this bright light." I must admit I didn't stick around to see who was driving, (yup, kind of a coward). It was snowing and low visibility...I think that is descriptive enough. As I walked away I smiled.  Someone's parents, grandparents, and me one day soon. The whole two minute good deed just made me smile!

So here is a challenge for you...see if you can do a good deed for someone you don't know this week and see if it makes you smile too!

And to think I cried!

Forty years ago last December I was living on the Avenues in Salt Lake City.  I was working at ZCMI and life was.....I'm not sure how I would describe it but it probably could have been better. My father was "on assignment" for the LDS Church living and working in England.  I knew I could join them whenever I wanted but I wasn't sure I wanted to.

One morning I woke up and knew I was meant to join them. I went and inquired about a ticket and they said I could leave the next day. Too fast for me!!! Just because I knew I was meant to join them didn't mean I wanted to. I arranged to leave one week later. I left SLC on the 8th of December and cried all the way from SLC to Chicago. That's a lot of crying.  When asked at immigration why I was there and how long I was staying my reply was very exact!  "The minimum amount of time you allow!"  Four days later my life changed.

I can't say it was "Love at first sight", but by February I was begging the "Home Office" to extend my stay and 11 months later...

39 years and counting...and to think I cried!

Did I Let an Angel Go By?

Yesterday morning as I came out of Smith's with a couple of bags of shopping a younger women asked me "Do you have any spare change?" I said "No." and hurried towards my car. As I was walking away I heard her say in a sweet polite voice "Thank you anyway." As I put my shopping in my car I thought of the few one dollar bills I have in my car. I hurried to get them. Only $5.00. As I got out of the car I saw her reach into the garbage can and pull something out. I started to walk back to her and then I judged. "Was that a cigarette butt? I'm not going to give her money to buy cigarettes!" Our eyes briefly met and I had started walking a few steps when those thoughts occurred. She too by then had started to walk towards me. I got in my car and started to drive away all the while rationalizing by actions. It was then I decided to go buy her some food. The first fast food place I went to was closed. The second one I ordered two egg and bacon biscuit combos. I had to wait a few minutes for the hash browns to cook (even fresh food no stale hour old food). I drove back and she was gone. I drove around the car park. I drove down 5th South, I drove up 5th South, I drove along Main Street. No young girl who someone had taken the time to teach her to say "Thank you" in a sweet polite voice.
One of my favorite scriptures is Matthew 25:34-45. I don't always stop and give money to those with signs but yesterday I think I let an angel get away! I will not be so quick to judge but will share what I have. Where else could she have disappeared to, if she wasn't an angel in disquise?

Let's See Who is Paying Attention

I decided a year ago this month to start a blog. I have had several ideas for posts, I even wrote one but did not push "publish". I do follow others and sometimes comment and sometime just "blog stalk". So here is my question what are your favorite things to read about?
